You know its funny whenever you get these scientist and naive psychologists assuming that gamers actually want to be emotionally connected in a freakin’ game. Who in their right mind wants to ‘kill’ in a video game and feel anything for it?
They also assume that we don’t want to use our hands on a controller and would rather just ‘think’ what we want to do. Sounds easier at first glance, but one of the big draws of video games is in some sense a “mindless” thinking.
Also, I’m sorry to say that we are very very far away from “using our minds as a controller” and taking brainwave signals and converting those into emotion….it’s all waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the road. The technology, for mainstream use, just isn’t anywhere near close to being there. For God’s sake, voice recognition technology still isn’t impressive….and reading sound waves is much simpler than brainwaves.
Even if it was…there are logistical ramifications that will need to be considered….
It’s like in the movie Minority Report where Tom Cruise is using his hands to manipulate the screen and move crap all over w/o a mouse or keyboard. Yeah, it’s cool…but for a person who sit at their keyboard all day long like me, i sure as hell don’t want to be waving my hands in the air for 10 hours straight like some sort of fool caught in the middle of an intersection pretending to be a traffic officer.
It will happen…just not for a long long time. In the meantime, i’ll be typing on my old school keyboard, barely exerting any energy to move my mouse, and get fatter by the minute instead of those fools waving their arms in the sci-fi movie just to open a freakin’ email.
Oh…and I just took the lead for the longest post ever on your blog.
