so i was privileged enough to have a VIP tour of the nasa facilities. much talk went on during the day about the current state of our space program, where it is going, and where it has been. its kind of a weird vibe there right now because 60% of nasa employees will be layed off when the shuttle is discontinued next year, and for the first time it is not because of the economy. it’s because the new rockets require such little maintenance compared to the current shuttle due to new technologies. its sad but also kind of cool. at the moment the entire manned space program is in jeopardy of being pushed back for an other 10 years. hopefully obam’s loves space as much as i do and sees the redeeming values of space exploration.
